Electrode Plates

Thank you for your interest in exploring the prospects of using carbon graphite plate electrodes. The use of carbon graphite in energy storage is fairly well known as an improvement on existing technology. However, the challenge that has burdened further development has been the perception that an electrode could not be made up of pure carbon graphite and as such industry has come up with a number of different other ways to introduce carbon graphite into the battery structure.

We developed an advanced method of processing high quality carbon graphite to produce carbon graphite plates. This is our expertise. We know that the energy storage (battery) industry worldwide is in a race to find new and more efficient ways of storing energy, including ways that are scalable to very large energy storage devices. As such, the actual technology of how a carbon graphite plate can be used as a battery electrode is the expertise of those in the battery manufacturing business.

The challenge that has plagued carbon graphite as battery electrodes has been mainly strength related. Our carbon graphite plate material harbors the highest strength properties in the world and can in fact be used to replace the lead electrodes in a lead acid battery. We can manufacture our carbon graphite plates to as thin as 0.8 mm and yield the following properties:

Property Units Lead Aces Lead Plate Existing Typical Values
Bulk Density g/cm3 11.3 1.88 1.82
Electric Resistivity μOhm*m 20.6 10 5.5
Bending Strength Mpa   110 57.9
Compressive Strength Mpa   210 127.6
Grain Size (Max.)   N/A 30 10.2
CTE 10-6 °C   4.6 5.9
Thermal Conductivity W/mk 34.9 80 83
Ash Content % N/A .05 .05
Porosity % N/A .8 12

Our carbon graphite plate can produce as much as 25 cm2 of surface area per cm3 which is significantly greater than what the industry is producing in batteries today. The potential for low cost and low environmental impacting energy storage lies with carbon graphite as it is both a green product and low in cost. Never before has carbon graphite been available in a plate form at these thin thicknesses with the strength properties we have been able to achieve. Our plates were recently part of a Georgia Institute of Technology research project into energy storage technology which led to a worldwide patent for which our carbon graphite plates played a crucial role because of their unique physical properties. Without our carbon graphite plates this technology would not have been possible with the same success.

We invite you to undertake testing to see how our carbon graphite electrode material can enhance and improve your existing and emerging battery/energy storage product research. Typically, people are asking for plates that range from 0.8 mm to 1.2 mm in thickness as they provide for the highest concentration of surface area in a typical battery arrangement.

Please contact us for information on acquiring sample plates for your R & D purposes. As a side note, should you have an interest in exploring the application of the research and patented process recently developed by Georgia Institute of Technology, please let us know as they are now actively seeking industry collaboration in finding real product applications for their technology.
